Season of Care: What We’ve Been Up To
It’s been a full and beautiful few months at AfroVillage. As the weather cools and we prepare for colder days and longer nights, we’ve been thinking a lot about how much care and creativity our communities holds.
This fall, our team has been everywhere! From the Portland to Detroit, in the lab to the dinner table, sharing food and skills, leading and learning, building spaces that will keep us connected and stronger than before!
We’ve continued our Free CSA program that began in the summer, sharing fresh produce and groceries with families across Portland. While things have slowed a bit, we are still working hard to continue to provide food. Still fundraising and working to find grants that will help us keep this work going.
We were invited back to table at Black Community Science Night at OMSI, where BIPOC families explored, experimented, and enjoyed fellowship. It was an amazing night being reminded that we are often in the presence of future scientists, artists, and innovators. It’s always an honor to be surrounded by other organizations, schools, foundations, and business owners who are passionate about providing access to things like this to our shared community.
We also hosted our Innovative Family Lab Night, where kids and parents got hands-on with technology and imagination, dreaming together about what community could look like in the future. Our Donor Appreciation Dinner gave us a chance to slow down and say thank you—to everyone who has given their time, creativity, and resources to help us grow.
Our free communuity acupuncture has still been happenng every third Wednesday of the month!
Our next two will be:
November19th and December 17th!
