The AfroFuturism Oasis: Empowering Our Futures

This event took place on October 10th

AfroVillage at Sustainable Building Week 2025

AfroVillage was honored to return to Sustainable Building Week (SBW) 2025, hosted by the ZERO Coalition at PAE’s Living Building—a space that generates its own energy and captures its own water. This year’s presentation welcomed around 50 attendees eager to hear updates on the AfroFuturism Oasis project. The event opened with Q sharing the deep history of Black Portlanders, followed by a community visioning exercise led by Kirk, and reflections from Kyhetica “Ky” on lessons learned and hopes for the year ahead.

The event also served as a fundraiser supporting AfroVillage’s ongoing programs and Oasis development. Through raffle entries, ticket donations, and QR code contributions, the evening raised over $3,000 to fund winter kits, volunteer events, and direct support for The Village community.
